EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team traveled to Evansville, Ind. today to open Missouri Valley Conference play against the Purple Aces. The Salukis return home from their trip with a 4-1 victory and a 1-0 record in conference play.
The Salukis (7-4, 1-0) began the day winning two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Martina Vianna Ce and Amanda Taillefer defeated Lisa Kawamoto and Sara Wilhoite in No. 2 doubles action, 8-5. Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Agata Skorupska dealt Stephanie Millis and Susan Elliott an 8-6 loss.
SIU wrapped up the match victory with three wins in singles action. Jessica Flannery, Vianna Ce and Taillefer all picked up wins to carry the Salukis to victory.
Head coach Rene Vidal was pleased with his team's efforts, especially those of Vianna Ce and Taillefer.
"We played well today," said Vidal. "Amanda and Martina performed great in both singles and doubles."
The Salukis will be back in action tomorrow at noon when they host Northern Illinois.
