Women's Tennis Falls to Murray State, 5-2

PADUCAH, Ky. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team came up short yesterday in Paducah, Ky., losing to Murray State by a score of 5-2.
The Salukis (3-2) got off to a rough start on the doubles' courts, losing two of three matches and falling behind 1-0 in the match. Only the duo of Michela Cruise and Martina Vianna Ce were able to win in doubles as they knocked off Lyndsay Ottosen and Casady Pruitt, 8-4.
"Murray State played more aggressively at one and three doubles," said head coach Rene Vidal.
Things did not improve much for the Dawgs on the singles' courts as they dropped four out of the six contests. Once again, Cruise came through for the Salukis, defeating Lynsey Bochenek on court five, 6-1, 6-1.
Jessica Flannery also claimed a victory in singles when she defeated Angela McGahee, 6-3, 6-0.
While the loss was disappointing, the Salukis look to move on from the match quickly. SIU will be back in action on Sunday at 10 a.m. when they face the Red Hawks of Miami (OH).
"We will learn from this match and continue to get better," said Vidal.
