Women's Tennis drops close match to Drake, 4-3

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team lost a close match today to conference rival Drake, 4-3.
The Bulldogs (8-11, 3-2 MVC) edged the Salukis (11-8, 2-4 MVC) to collect the doubles point. Veronika Leszayova and Allison Wilkie squeezed by Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Jessica Flannery at No. 1, 8-6.
Eveline Rusdianto and Irina Kalashnikova wrapped up the point with an 8-4 win over Martina Vianna Ce and Michela Cruise at No. 2. Amanda Taillefer and Andrea Courtney were the only Salukis to collect a doubles win with their 8-4 victory over Kari Sloboth and Sarah Plowman at No. 3.
The Salukis split the singles matches with the Bulldogs, falling one short of a victory. Flannery defeated Kalashnikova 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 at No. 3. Cruise beat Zi Wang 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Vianna Ce picked up the Salukis' third point with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Sloboth at No. 5.
SIU will be back in action Saturday, April 21 when they host Creighton at 1 p.m.
