Salukis Fall to No. 66 Sycamores, 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team dropped their first Missouri Valley Conference yesterday with a loss to No. 66 Indiana State, 6-1.
The Sycamores (9-7, 2-2 MVC) swept the Salukis (10-5, 2-1 MVC) in doubles, winning all three matches.
With a 1-0 lead the Sycamores powered through the singles matches, winning five of six. Only one Saluki was able to win as Martina Vianna Ce defeated Marie Caujolle 6-4, 7-5 in No. 6 singles action.
"Martina competed very well to come back from being down a break in the first set to earn the victory," said head coach Rene Vidal. "Overall, Indiana State played more aggressively and executed better than we did today. They deserve the victory."
The Salukis will look to get back on track today at 1 p.m. when they host Illinois State.
