Salukis Drop Second MVC Match of the Season

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team dropped its second Missouri Valley Conference match of the season with a 4-0 loss to Illinois State on Easter Sunday.
The Salukis (10-6, 2-2 MVC) dropped the doubles point to the Redbirds (10-6, 5-0 MVC), falling behind 1-0 early on. The Saluki duo of Michela Cruise and Martina Vianna Ce were the only pair to pick up a doubles win, beating Julia Zubkova and Tanja Hrovatic 8-3.
SIU was swept on the singles' courts, dropping the first three matches to bring the match total to 4-0.
"We competed well today," said SIU head coach Rene Vidal. "We will learn and grow from this close match and we will be better prepared to capitalize on our opportunities going forward."
The Salukis will be back in action on Wednesday, April 11 at 3 p.m. when they host SEMO at the University Courts.
