Women's tennis drops match to Arkansas State

Carbondale, Ill.- The SIU women's tennis team lost their first home match of the season against Arkansas State, 5-2, Sunday at SportsBlast.
Fadzai Mawisire picked up two victories in No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles which improved her career record at SIU to 6-0.
Mawisire paired with Ame Blacketer to defeat Tina Ojdanic and Jenny Herring 8-2 in No. 1 singles while Vishakha Sheoran and Martina Vianna Ce defeated Leydi Zora and Rone van Wyk 9-8(0).
But the Salukis would only pick up one more victory in singles play, with Mawisire defeating Herring, 4-6,6-2,6-1 in No. 1 singles.
Head coach Audra Nothwehr said the team had a few jitters to work out since it was their first home match of the season.
"We knew it would come down to a few matches but we're really happy with doubles and in singles we struggled to stay consistent," Nothwehr said. "But the team and I are really happy with the amount of fans that came out to watch and support us today which was really great."
The Salukis (2-1) will return to play on Friday when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the University of Dayton at 5 p.m.
