The women's tennis team lost its opening match of the season to Louisville, 6-0.
The team knew that opening this years play in Louisville was going to be no easy task, but to start play without a full squad didn't make things easier. The Salukis played without Vishakha Sheoran, which which caused Southern to forfeit two matches, one in singles and one in doubles.
The short-handed Salukis did have a bright spot in the loss as Kory Love and Anastacia Simins won their doubles match, 8-7.
"I was proud of our doubles match with Anastacia and Korey," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "They have never played together as a doubles team and they won."
Nothwehr said her squad had trouble with Louisville's powerful serves.
"We usually practice on slower indoor courts and the courts we are playing on are faster," she said. "We need to work on timing and shorting back our swings to get better."
