Melanie Delsart Earns ITA Regional Ranking

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has ranked Southern Illinois junior Melanie Delsart at No. 10 in the newly released rankings for the central region.
Delsart joins players from Kansas State, Nebraska, Tulsa, Iowa and Missouri among the top 10 singles players in the region, and was the only Missouri Valley Conference player to rank in the top 10 regionally.
"Melanie absolutely deserved this ranking. She is a competitor and she wants to win no matter who she plays or what they are ranked", head coach Audra Nothwehr said.
Delsart finished a strong spring 2011 season, at one point winning six matches straight and continuing where she left off in the fall 2011 season winning five of seven single matches.
"I am very pleased and surprised," Delsart said. "I can only say that we have been working very hard as a team, and being ranked is a result of that."
Delsart and the Salukis will kick off the spring season February 4 at Eastern Illinois.
