Women's Tennis tops Austin Peay, 4-3

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team found a way to win today, as junior Anastacia Simons clinched the Salukis 4-3 win over the Governors (0-7) at the No. 6 spot.
Austin Peay came into the match today (0-6) playing the likes of No. 15 Vanderbilt and Louisville. "They were a much stronger singles team," said head coach Audra Nothwehr.
Sophomore Anita Lee continues to flourish in single play, improving to 2-0 on the season at the No. 2 position. Junior Melanie Delsart fell in at the No. 1 position to Vanja Tomic, (6-2) (6-4), who was picked as the Ohio Valley Conference's Preseason individual player of the year.
Southern continues to dominate doubles play, sweeping Austin Peay 3-0 and improving to 6-0 on the season in doubles action.
"We look like we are moving in the right direction," said Nothwehr, "We are getting better each match."
The Salukis will be back in action next Sunday at 10:00 a.m., as they host SIUE in their home opener.
