Women's Tennis bounces back against NIU, 5-2

CARBONDALE, Ill. --The Southern Illinois women's tennis team bounced back today defeating Northern Illinois, 5-2.
The Salukis (4-1, 0-0) continue to have success in doubles play, where they are 12-3 on the season. Junior Anastacia Simons, and sophomore Anita Lee won their doubles point for SIU at the No. 2 position. Down 5-3 to their NIU counterparts, Lee and Simons came back to win their match 9-8 (5) to clinch the doubles point for Southern.
"I think we need to get stronger mentally," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "Some of the players will learn to do this, and it will take longer for some of our younger players."
In singles play for SIU, Melanie Delsart defeated Sara McLaughlin (6-1)(6-4) at the No 1 position, improving to 3-2 on the season. Freshman Ariadna Cairo Baza defeated Mary Malkin (6-1)(6-3) at the No. 5 position, improving to 3-1 in dual play.
The Salukis will be back in action on Thursday, when they take on Murray State at 3 p.m., before they begin a six game road swing.
