CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team is set to host No. 55 Memphis on Saturday at University Courts, first match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Looking at Memphis
The Southern Illinois women's tennis team and Memphis have met 15 times in total, with Memphis holding the all-time series lead 8-7. Last time the Salukis and Tigers played was in 2008 when SIU defeated Memphis 4-3 in Memphis, Tenn. The Tiger have four players ranked in singles, and one doubles duo ranked.
Double-Trouble
The Salukis have been on a tear this year in doubles competition, compiling a 27-6 record this spring. Leading SIU in doubles play is the duo of Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima who combine for an 8-1 record this spring, primarily at the No. 2 position. Not far behind are Anita Lee and Anastacia Simons who are 8-2 this spring. The Salukis have won the doubles point in nine of their 11 matches this year.
Delsart's ITA Ranking
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has ranked Southern Illinois junior Melanie Delsart at No. 10 in the central region. Delsart joins players from Kansas State, Nebraska, Tulsa, Iowa and Missouri among the top 10 singles players in the region, and was the only Missouri Valley Conference player to rank in the top 10 regionally. "I am very pleased and surprised," Delsart said. "I can only say that we have been working very hard as a team, and being ranked is a result of that." Delsart started the season 3-3 in singles play, but since has reeled off five straight wins, and is now 8-3 on the season at the No. 1 position.
