CARBONDALE, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis' four match winning streak came to a crashing halt Saturday, as the No. 55 ranked Memphis Tigers topped SIU, 6-1.
The Salukis (10-3, 1-0 MVC) saw their lone victory in singles at the No. 1 position as Melanie Delsart defeated Tiffany Welcher who is ranked No. 119 in the nation, 7-6, 0-6, 10-7.
"Melanie had a good first and second set, but she closed it out on a super tie-breaker, and I think they saw that they could play with these guys," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "They are very good, and this gives us confidence headed back into conference play, I think we played them tough."
The Salukis lost handily in doubles play today, as they were swept for the first time this season in doubles.
Southern will return to action on tomorrow when they host Chicago State to end their three match homestead. First match is scheduled for 10 a.m.
