Melanie Delsart Named MVC Tennis Athlete of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill.- Junior Melanie Delsart was named the Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week, marking the second time in three weeks she has garnered this award.
Delsart competed in three matches this week, winning all three singles matches, including against nationally ranked Memphis (No. 55) where she defeated Tiffany Welcher 7-6, 0-6, 10-7, who is ranked No. 119 nationally in singles. Delsart secured Southerns' lone win in that match at the No. 1 position. On Sunday she defeated Karyn Emaralda of Chicago State, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, helping the Salukis pick up a 6-1 win. Earlier in the week, Delsart defeated Dora Kotsiou of Evansville at the No. 1 slot 6-3, 6-0.
Delsart holds the No. 10 central region ITA ranking, and is 11-3 on the season all at the No. 1 position, winning eight matches straight. Delsart has also been a huge part of the Salukis doubles success, posting an 10-3 doubles record primarily at the No. 1 spot.
