CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team competed in its annual Fall Classic Sunday against Eastern Illinois and Arkansas State. The weather played a factor in a start time but didn't have an effect on SIU as the team finished the Classic with an overall record of 18-3.
Playing in her first matches of the year, junior Natasha Tomishima had two comeback wins in singles action, winning against the Panthers' Janelle Prinser, 8-6, and Tamera Slijepcevic of Arkansas State, 9-8. Tomishima also picked up a doubles win with partner Korey Love, defeating an Arkansas State duo, 8-6.
Senior Anita Lee picked up two singles wins Sunday along with Saluki teammates Gisela Cairo Baza and Ariadna Cairo Baza.
"We came out on fire today," said head coach Audra Anderson. "I am really impressed with the progress we have made in just a week since playing in the UNLV Invitational."
The Salukis will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 4, when they travel to St. Louis, Mo. for the MVC Individual Championships.
