NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After a ten-day break in action, the Southern Illinois women's tennis team picked up its eighth-straight win of the year, defeating Lipscomb, 5-2 in Nashville.
The Salukis (8-3) took the doubles point behind strong performances at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Meagan Monaghan and Natasha Tomishima teamed up to take an 8-6 win over their Bison counterparts. Korey Love and Anita Lee defeated their opponents 8-6 at the second position.
Southern went on to take 4-of-6 matches in singles play to secure the victory. Tomishima defeated Welcher 7-5, 6-1 while Lee won at the second spot 7-5, 6-0. Ariadna Cairo Baza won at the fifth spot 6-1, 7-6 (3) and Gisela Cairo Baza 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth position. The Bison (6-5) picked up wins at the three and four spots.
The Saluki win marks the 99th career NCAA win for head coach Audra Anderson. She holds the best winning percentage in school history and is second in school history in wins behind Judy Auld (405) who coached from 1975-2004.
Southern will be back in action Friday when they travel to South Carolina to face Bucknell before wrapping up the weekend against South Carolina State on Saturday.
