CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's tennis team continued its win streak on Monday, earning a 4-1 victory over SIU-Edwardsville to advance to a 5-6 record overall. The Salukis remain undefeated at home after winning four consecutive matches.
"The girls played with so much passion and fight today," head coach Audra Anderson said. "I could tell how much they wanted the win."
The Salukis opened with strong performances in doubles, clinching wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, while the No. 2 doubles match went unfinished. Ariadna Cairo Baza and Yana Golovkina came away with their fifth-consecutive win at the No. 3 spot.
SIU's success carried over into singles play as well, as three of the four finished matches resulted in Saluki victories. Meagan Monaghan, Yana Golovkina and Athena Chrysanthou each came away with wins in two sets at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively.
"Yana and Athena especially looked sharp tonight," Anderson said. "The freshmen are starting to come around and produce some results for us."
After three matches in four days, the Salukis continue their eight-match stint at home this weekend with a double header on Saturday against SEMO followed by Lindsey Wilson.
