CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's tennis team will hold its annual Saluki Doubles Showdown on Sunday, Sept. 13. The fundraiser will help pay for the team's trips to New Mexico and Florida in the spring.
The event begins at 1 p.m. with tennis drills and competitions on the prize court, immediately followed by the doubles showdown at 2 p.m.
"It hits a lot of different areas," head coach Audra Anderson said. "It's a great way to get the community involved with the players and to introduce our new team to them."
Participants must have some knowledge of the rules and scoring of the game, but all skill levels are welcomed. For the doubles showdown, participants will be paired based on skill level. The duos will play two sets to six and will switch partners for the second round.
The Doubles Showdown will also include a silent auction and snacks throughout the day for participants.
The entry fee is $20 for students and $25 for non-students. To participate you must register at the SIU University Courts at 1 p.m. Participants may sign up as individuals or as pairs. Donations to the team are welcome from spectators and Saluki supporters.
"Over the years we've tried to stay connected to the tennis community in Carbondale and try to promote tennis," Anderson said. "This is just one way we can give back to Southern Illinois."
