Albuquerque, N.M. ¬ The women's tennis team is heading southwest to take on nationally ranked New Mexico on Saturday, and Northern Arizona on Sunday.
These matches will be the third and fourth of the team's 2016 campaign after splitting a pair in Louisville almost two weeks ago. In these two weeks the Salukis have practiced hard, and Head Coach Audra Anderson has liked the strides they have made as a team.
"It looks like we will be back to near 100 percent healthy by the time we play against New Mexico on Saturday," Coach Anderson said. "We have been really pushing the conditioning knowing that we would be going into a little bit higher altitude. We will be playing indoors so the pace of the courts will not change."
When going up against a nationally ranked team the Salukis already have experience this season. The squad put up the most wins program history against powerhouse Louisville on the January 16.
"New Mexico will definitely be a worthy opponent in that they had a national ranking last year and are still hold in the top 75 teams in the nation...We are looking forward to another chance to play a top team," Anderson said.
The Salukis' opponent on Sunday, Northern Arizona, is another team the squad isn't taking lightly. The Lumberjacks finished second in the Big Sky Conference and returned a majority of their players. This will be the first meeting ever between the two schools.
The match on Saturday will begin at 3 p.m. central time, and the match on Sunday will begin at 10 a.m.
