CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -Â The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team wraps up day two of competition at the UTC Tournament with four more doubles wins. The Salukis only played doubles matches today, and won four of the eight.
The pairing of Meagan Monaghan and Vitoria Beirao highlighted SIU today, winning both of their matches. The duo took down Mercer's No. 2 doubles team, 6-4, then defeated Jacksonville State's No. 2 team, 6-3. SIU picked up their other two wins in their dual with Jacksonville State, winning both matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 slot, 7-5 and 6-4.
"The tournament had a lot of great teams that raised the level of tennis very high," SIU head coach Audra Anderson said. "Our team showed a lot of heart and fought for every match. The matches were challenging and helped the girls get ready for the Missouri Valley Individual Championships next weekend."
The team will have one week off before they head to Evansville, Ind. for the MVC Individual Championships.Â
