
Women’s tennis to start 2017 against Arkansas and Eastern Illinois

O'FALLON – The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team begins their 2017 schedule on the road, having matchups on Saturday and Sunday. SIU will face Arkansas on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
FALL SEASON (2016)
The Salukis are coming off a successful fall season, playing in four different tournaments stretched across the end of September and through October. The highlight during the stretch was the Missouri Valley Individual Championships, where SIU grabbed four Valley titles. It was the most ever a Southern team had won at the Individual Championships. It was also the most wins of any team at the championships.
SIU finished the fall season with a winning singles and doubles record. The most notable statistic, coming from doubles play, was eight players finished with a winning doubles record. SIU was 23-10 in all their doubles matches, giving them a .697 winning percentage.
LAST SPRING (2016)
SIU ended their 2015-16 campaign as the second best team in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Salukis finished with a 16-12 record overall, with a 6-1 conference record. It was the fifth consecutive winning season for SIU. The season ended in the final day of the MVC championships, SIU falling to Wichita State in the title match.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
SIU's first match is against SEC opponent, Arkansas. This will be the Razorbacks second match of the year, as they square off with St. Louis prior to their match against SIU. Arkansas is coming off a 16-14 season.
Eastern Illinois will be starting their spring campaign on Sunday against SIU. The two teams met up last semester at the Saluki Fall Invite. The Salukis finished the invite with a 4-2 singles record and a 2-0 doubles record against the Panthers.
Saturday's match will take place in O'Fallon, Illinois, directly following the SLU vs. Arkansas meet at 4 p.m. On Sunday the Salukis will travel to Danville, Illinois for their match against EIU.
