- SIU is 83 yards away from breaking the program single-season record for passing yards, which was 3,293 yards in 2007.

- The series is marked by two notable streaks. WIU won 18-straight games over SIU from 1984-2001. SIU has won 12-of-14 games since, including nine-straight wins from 2002-2010.Â

- The Salukis also won seven-straight home games over Illinois State from 1976-87.Â

- Pass attempts: 432 in 1989 // 419 in 2016 (13 attempts away)
- Pass completions: 280 in 2015 // 270 in 2016 (10 completions away)
- Passing yards: 3,293 in 2007 // 3,210 in 2016 (83 yards away)
OFFENSE PROVES ITSELF AGAINST THE BEST
- Saluki Football has had one of the most prolific offenses in the nation the last two years. Last week against Youngstown State, SIU proved itself once again.
- Youngstown State entered the game with the MVFC's best total defense and passing defense. SIU passed for 366 yards and had 429 yards total offense.
- Youngstown State has only given up 400 yards total offense to an FCS school twice under head coach Bo Pelini. Both times were against SIU.Â
- The Salukis put up 459 yards total offense against the Penguins in 2015, 90 more yards than any other program has managed against them (18 games).
- In the second half, SIU out-gained Youngstown State 301-124.Â
- Israel Lamprakes had 156 yards receiving in the game, the most for a Saluki receiver since Jeff Evans had 159 against Northern Iowa in 2010.Â
- To put SIU's passing game in perspective: Youngstown State was allowing 159 yards per game passing on average in the first nine games of the season. Lamprakes had 156 by himself, and SIU quarterback Sam Straub more than doubled that average with 366 yards passing.Â
STRAUB SHINES
- Sophomore quarterback Sam Straub earned his first career starts the last two weeks. He has passed for 705 yards in the two starts and hasn't turned the ball over.
- Straub threw for 339 yards and ran for 68 more in the 35-28 win over South Dakota in his first career start.
- Straub's 407 yards total offense against USD rank seventh in SIU single-game history. Three of the six games in front of him were accomplished by last year's starter, Mark Iannotti, who led the FCS in total offense in 2015.
- Straub completed passes of 25 yards or longer to five different receivers against South Dakota.
- Before this season, no SIU quarterback had thrown for 300+ yards in back-to-back games since 1999. Both Josh Straughan and Sam Straub have accomplished that this year.
- Against Youngstown State, a team allowing an MVFC-best 159 yards passing per game, Straub threw for 366 yards and a touchdown without a turnover.Â
YOUTH MOVEMENT
- SIU is among the youngest teams in the nation.Â
- Of the 44 players listed on this week's offensive and defensive 2-deep, only nine are seniors.Â
- Only four of the projected 22 starters are seniors.Â
- Eleven of the projected 22 starters are either freshmen or sophomores.Â
- SIU has played seven true freshman this year and started six of them. The Salukis started four true freshmen on defense (DT Blake Parzych, DT Malik Haynes, S Jeremy Chinn and CB James Ceasar).
- SIU's top six rushers will return in 2017.
- Six of SIU's top seven receivers will return in 2017.Â
- Eight of SIU's top 10 tacklers will return in 2017.Â
