Salukis take down Illinois State on the road

Normal, Ill. - Southern Illinois women's tennis rallied for an on-the-road conference win over Illinois State last night, winning 4-3. The win keeps SIU undefeated in conference play, 2-0, and moveS the Redbirds to a 1-1 record in the MVC.
The Salukis started off strong in doubles play, but were unable to close the gap down the stretch in two matches. Polina Dozortseva and Athena Chrysanthou were the Saluki pair to pick up a doubles win, as they won from the No. 3 spot, 6-4.
Going into singles play down 0-1, the Salukis rallied and picked up some key wins early, and tied the match at two apiece. After that there was no looking back. SIU would go on to win two of the next three matches, clinching the victory. The singles wins from Meagan Monaghan, Ana Sofia Cordero, Katie Fries, and Polina Dozortseva, were the deciding factor in the contest, lifting the Salukis over the Redbirds, 4-3. The Salukis are only the second team this season to defeat the Redbirds on their home court.
"We really came through in singles yesterday," SIU head coach Audra Anderson said. "Polina really stepped up big in doubles and singles, and having Meagan back after being out for a few weeks gave us a boost. That was definitely a big win for us in the conference."
The win moves SIU's record 10-9 overall, and 2-0 in the conference. The Salukis take on the Bradley Braves today in Peoria. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m.
