CARBONDALE, Ill. — Saluki women's tennis coach Audra Anderson announced the addition of Tereza Klocova and Mary Ellen Green, who have both been added to the roster for the 2016-17 season.
Klocova, a native of the Czech Republic, is a transfer from Tyler Junior College and will be a sophomore in the fall. She was the 2016 NJCAA Division I national champion at No. 4 singles and a First-Team All-American. Klocova played mainly No. 2 doubles and No. 3 singles last season at Tyler and helped the team finish No. 2 in the ITA rankings. She held a women's Czech national ranking of No. 67 in 2014.
"Tereza brings a great deal of experience to our lineup, having competed at the national JUCO tournament and national women's tournaments in the Czech Republic," Anderson said. "She was very well coached at Tyler, and she is a fighter."
Green is a Freshman from DeKalb, Ill. and was a four-year varsity starter at DeKalb High School. She qualified for the Illinois state singles tournament both her junior and senior seasons. Green finished her senior season with a school-record 26 wins and placed second in state sectionals.
"Mary Ellen comes in as a freshmen who is ready to work hard for a position," Anderson said. "She has a very positive, determined attitude that should lead to improvement throughout her career. We are thrilled to add another Illinois player to our team."
The Salukis are coming off a 16-12 season in which they finished 6-1 and in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference. Anderson has coached nine seasons at Southern Illinois and holds the best winning percentage (140-83, .627) in school history. Her teams have posted winning records in five-straight seasons and seven out of the last nine.
