Saluki Volleyball falls at Evansville, 3-0

The Southern Illinois volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Evansville Purple Aces in Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday night. Three Salukis had seven kills each, including Abby Barrow, who will head into Monday's home contest against Loyola just five points shy of 1,000 for her career.Â
The Purple Aces improve to 10-14 overall and 4-8 in conference play, while the Salukis fall to 5-18 and 4-8 in the Valley.
KEY MOMENTS
-Patience Brown and Kolby Meeks combined for eight kills and hit .428 in the opening set. The Salukis got to set point on a kill by Barrow. Evansville went on a 5-0 run behind three kills by Mildrelis Rodriquez to stun SIU and tie the set, 24-24. The score remained tied, with neither team pulling ahead until a 3-0 run by the Purple Aces gave the home team a 30-28 set one win.
-In a set that featured 11 ties and eight lead changes, the Salukis built a four-point lead, 21-17 on a kill by Andrea Estrada. The Aces quickly cut it to one before Barrow's sixth kill of the match made it 22-20. Evansville sided out and closed the frame on a 5-1 run to take set two, 25-23. With momentum in their favor, the Purple Aces took set three, 25-13 Â
KEY STATS
- Patience Brown put down seven kills against two errors for a .312 hitting percentage. She added five blocks which was the third-straight match that she has recorded at least five.
-Maggie Nedoma tallied seven kills as did Abby Barrow. Barrow added seven digs and three blocks.
-Andrea Estrada finished with six kills, 11 digs and an ace. It's the 12th time this season that she has reached double-figures in digs.
-Rachel Maguire recorded her fifth career double-double with 14 assists and 11 digs.
