Saluki volleyball hosts Loyola Monday

Abby Barrow comes into Monday's contest five kills shy of a 1,000 for her career.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois volleyball team hosts the Loyola Ramblers (1-21, 0-11) Monday night in Missouri Valley Conference action. First serve inside Davies Gym is set for 7 p.m.
All-time series vs. Loyola
The Salukis hold a 7-5 series lead against the Loyola Ramblers in a series that began 1984. The two teams met just four times prior to Loyola joining the MVC in 2013 with SIU winning three of four of those meetings. Since then, the series is tied 4-4. The Ramblers swept the season series a year ago, and have won three of the last four meetings between the two programs. SIU's last home win over Loyola came in four sets on Sept. 28, 2013, as the Ramblers have won three-straight road matches against the Salukis.
Scouting the Ramblers
The Ramblers are winless in Missouri Valley Conference play this season and have lost 16-straight. Gabby Maciagowski leads the Ramblers with 190 kills (2.88/set) while the Loyola defensive efforts are led by Alex Nunez, who is averaging 3.61 digs per set.
Closing in on 1000
Abby Barrow, who put down seven kills in Saturday's match at Evansville, is closing in on 1,000 career kills. She is just five kills shy of becoming the 15th Saluki, and ninth active player in the Missouri Valley Conference, with 1,000 career kills.
Success against the Ramblers
Barrow has finished with double-digit kills in all six career meetings with the Ramblers, including a career-high 21 kills at Loyola two years ago to the day (Oct. 30, 2015). Barrow is hitting .297 for her career against the Ramblers and has recorded at least 30 swings in four-straight matches against Loyola.
More success against Loyola
Barrow has put down 10-plus kills in 48 of her 116 career matches, including 32 times in Valley play. The two-time MVC Scholar Athlete team selection has reached double-digits against all nine MVC teams with the exception of newcomer Valpo. Her six times with double-digit kills against Loyola are the most for her against any Valley team, with a complete list of times that Barrow reached double-figures below:

Hitting Quicks
Patience Brown set career-bests in kills and hitting percentage in the 3-1 win over Indiana State on Oct. 27. Brown put down 16 kills, against two errors for a .519 hitting percentage. The Salukis improved to 4-0 this season when the Bloomington, Ill. native records 10-plus kills.
Active Hands
The Salukis recorded a season-high 14 blocks in the 3-1 win at Indiana State on Oct. 27. Six Salukis recorded at least two block assists, led by Patience Brown and Abby Barrow. Brown had a career-best nine blocks (two solo, seven assists) while Barrow notched five total blocks, including a career-high two solo blocks. It was the seventh time this season SIU has finished with 10-plus blocks and are the most blocks in a four-set Valley match this season.
700 Career Digs
Ashley Edelen recorded her 700th career dig against Bradley on Oct. 21. She now has more digs this season (380) then she had during her previous three seasons combined (352).Â
Making the second pass
Edelen has also been able to keep the Salukis in system as SIU's second ball passer, as she recorded four assists at Evansville on Oct. 28. It marked the seventh time this season that Edelen has tallied at least four assists, including a career-high seven against Arkansas State on Aug. 29.
Pair of Aces
Abby Barrow recorded a pair of aces in SIU's 3-1 win over Indiana State on Oct. 27, and now has 19 aces on the season. Her 19 aces are more than double her career total heading into the 2017 season, as she came into her senior season with nine aces in three seasons as primarily a front row player. The Metamora, Ill. native has served at least one ace in 11 of SIU's 23 matches this season.
10-plus digs
Barrow recorded seven kills, 10 digs and five blocks in the win over Indiana State on Oct. 27. It marked the ninth time this season that she has reached double figures in the category.
Fifth career double-double
Rachel Maguire finished with 14 assists and 11 digs at Evansville on Oct. 28 for the fifth double-double of her young career. She also served her first ace in over a month against the Purple Aces, as the Bloomington, Ill. native recorded her first ace since she served two aces in a 3-1 win over Valpo on Sept. 25.
20 shy of 700
Nellie Fredriksson is 20 kills shy of 700 for her career. The Angelholm, Sweden native has an active streak of seven-straight matches with at least five kills.
10-plus kills for Estrada
Andrea Estrada recorded 11 kills in the 3-1 win over Indiana State on Oct. 27. It marked the 73rd time in 118 career matches that the two-time All-MVC selection has put down ten-plus kills.
1,300 career dig
In SIU's 3-1 win over Indiana State, Andrea Estrada recorded her 1,300 career dig. She joins Kristie Kemner (1999-02) and Jennifer Berwanger (2006-10) as the the only three Salukis in program history with 1,300 kills/1,300 digs.
Serving Specialist
Alison Thomas has played in back-to-back matches for the first time in her young Saluki career, subbing in to serve at Indiana State and Evansville. In both matches she recorded an ace and a dig.
Finding holes in the defense
Maggie Nedoma put down 16 kills (2.28 kills/set) for the Salukis in a pair of conference road tilts over the weekend. The Brook Park, Ohio native tallied nine kills on 21 swings in a 3-1 win at Indiana State on Oct. 27, and followed with a team-high seven kills at Evansville on Oct. 28. It marked the 14th time in 22 matches this season that the freshman opposite hitter has recorded seven-plus kills.
11 shy of 500
Kolby Meeks needs 11 kills to reach 500 for her career. 369 of Meeks' 489 career kills have come in a Saluki uniform since she transferred from South Alabama.
Leads the Valley
Kolby Meeks leads the MVC with a .358 hitting percentage. She has hit over .500 in seven matches this season, and has hit over .300 in 12 of SIU's 23 matches this season.
