STARKVILLE, MISS. - The Southern Illinois University Softball team is slated to play their third straight weekend on the road in the February Freezer, hosted by Mississippi State University. The Salukis will yet again play five games in three days, starting with two on Friday.Â
SIU is coming off an eventful weekend in Madeira Beach, Florida, where the team went 3-2. The diamond Dawgs picked up huge wins on the second day of Eastern Michigan's tournament over the University of Massachusetts (UMass) and Michigan State. In the process of doing so head coach Kerri Blaylock won her 600th game as SIU's head coach. She currently is only 33 wins away from becoming Southern's all time wins leader.
After 10 games in the season Southern has...
    -Shut out their opponent four times, and are holding them to a combined .210 batting average.
    -Recorded one no-hitter. Brianna Jones went seven strong innings for a no-hit shutout victory over Mississippi Valley State.
    -Hit 11 home runs. SIU is currently ranked No. 38 in the country for home runs per game (1.10).
    -Has five Salukis batting over .300. Merri Anne Patterson, Sydney Jones, Haley Andrus, Eyrika Brandenburg, and Susie Baranski have compiled 50 hits in the first two weeks of the season.
    -Stolen 14 bases and have only been caught once. Senior, Merri Anne Patterson, leads Southern with five and is yet to be caught. She is four swipes away from breaking SIU's record for consecutive bases stolen without being caught. Patterson currently sits at 27.

Eastern Illinois - comes to Starkville with a 6-3 record, the most recent game was a win against North Florida in extras, 14-12. The Panthers are led by Kayla Bear at the plate, who is batting over .500 and has racked up 18 hits, and Michelle Rogers on the mound, who is 4-1 on the young season.Â

North Florida - is 7-5 on the year and have won five of their last seven. Their most recent game was a loss to nationally ranked Alabama, 0-2. The Ospreys are led by Macayla Kelley at the plate, who is batting over .500 with 14 hits, and Morgan Blourne and Amanda Blanchard, who both have winning records on the mound this season.Â
