CEDAR FALLS, IOWA - The Southern Illinois University softball team goes on the road for the second weekend in a row to face the University of Northern Iowa. It will be a three game series, featuring a double header on Saturday.Â
SIU enters this weekend with the best record in Missouri Valley Conference play. The Salukis currently sit at 7-2, while four teams are in a tie for second place at 6-3. Southern got to where they are by winning all three series they've played in so far. The Dawgs took two from Bradley and Illinois State and swept the preseason conference favorite, Drake.Â

This past weekend the Salukis played their first road series of the year in Normal, Illinois. SIU won two out of three against Illinois State, spoiling their first home series of the year. In the three games SIU put up monster numbers at the plate, scoring 26 runs. At the end of the weekend there were six Salukis that batted over .400 in the series, including three that batted over .500. The team now has outscored their conference opponents 52 to 31 this season.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
UNI enters the weekend with an overall record of 18-13 and a MVC record of 6-3. The Panthers are currently tied for second place in the conference after sweeping the University of Evansville this past weekend. The Panthers are led by a trio of players at the plate that are all batting over .300 are responsible for 13 of the team's 25 homers. On the mound, UNI has two players that have seven wins on the year. Alyssa Buchanan holds the best record at 7-1 and is holding batters to a .228 batting average.
Tomorrow's double header is scheduled to start at 12 p.m., with game two starting 25-30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.Â
