
Salukis host the Ramblers on Sunday

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team continues Missouri Valley Conference play against Loyola on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. The Salukis are coming off a win over Valparaiso and the contest can be heard locally on MAGIC 95.1 FM and can be seen on ESPN+.
Series History vs. the Ramblers
• The Salukis and the Ramblers will meet for the 16th time in a series that dates back to 1982.
• Loyola trimmed its deficit in the all-time series to 8-7 with last season's split. The home team won each of last season's matchups.
• The Salukis have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams and won the first-ever meeting of the two schools, a 75-60 win at Loyola on Dec. 18, 1982.
Current Salukis vs. the Ramblers
• Nicole Martin is averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals in four career meetings versus the Ramblers.
• Martin has reached double figures in three of her four career meetings against Loyola including 16 points in SIU's 62-46 win last season.
• Abby Brockmeyer is averaging 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in two career meetings against Loyola.
• Brockmeyer scored 16 points and grabbed six boards in SIU's win over Loyola last season.
• Makenzie Silvey is averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals in two meetings against the Ramblers.
Scouting the Ramblers
• Loyola lost to Missouri State, 84-49 on Friday night to snap a two-game win streak.
• The Ramblers have already exceeded their win total from a year ago (7) but are just 2-6 away from Gentile Arena.
• Abby O'Connor has led the 'Blers in scoring in six games and is averaging a team-best 13.4 points per game and 12.2 points per game in MVC games.
• O'Connor has one of four 30-point performances in the MVC this season, as she went for 31 vs. DePaul on Dec. 20.
Five in Double Figures
• Southern had five scorers in double figures for the first time this season in the win over Valparaiso.
Efficient Performance
• Southern shot a season-best 54.5% (30-of-55) from the field, including a season-high 53.3% (8-of-15) from behind the arc in the win over Valparaiso.
• It was the best that SIU has shot from the field since a 64-45 win over Indiana State on Dec. 31, 2017.
• The Salukis have won eight of their last nine games when shooting 50% or better from the floor.
• Southern is 11-4 in six seasons under head coach Cindy Stein when making at least half of their attempts from the field.
Drawing Contact
• Southern got to the free throw line a season-best 31 times- which marked its most in a four-quarter game since Feb. 27, 2015.
• It was also the third time in Coach Stein's six seasons as head coach that Southern has gotten to the charity stripe 30-plus times.
20-plus assists
• SIU dished out 21 assists in the win over Valpo, which was the fourth time this season that Southern has dished out 20-plus assists.
Fewest TOs in MVC play
• Southern turned the ball over just 11 times in the win over Valparaiso- it's fewest in a MVC game this season.
Martin's Night
• Nicole Martin finished was 4-of-7 from the field, which marked the 12th time this season she has shot 50% or better from the field (mini. 7 attempts).
• With her 16 points against Valparaiso, Martin eclipsed the 850 career points mark and she's two rebounds shy of 450.
• Martin went 8-of-12 from the free throw line Friday night, which were season-highs in both categories. It marked the fifth time in her career that she's made double-digit trips to the free throw line.
• Nicole Martin made her first 11 attempts from the floor in the win over Evansville on Jan. 4 and finished 11-for-12.
• Martin's 91.7% field goal percentage is tied for the fifth-best single game performance in NCAA DI this season and was the best by a Saluki with at least 10 attempts since Dyana Pierre made 14-of-14 attempts from the floor in SIU's win over Murray State on Dec. 16, 2014.
• Martin has now scored in double figures in 13 of SIU's 17 games this season and in 43 of 79 career games.
• Martin is shooting 54.2% from the field this season- which currently ranks her second in the Valley and 34th nationally.
Big Minutes off the bench
• Lauren Hartman had one of her best games of the season off the bench for the Salukis in the win over Valparaiso. She notched season-highs in minutes played (17), blocks (2) and steals (1).
Halfway to 1,000
• Abby Brockmeyer scored 11 points in the win over Valparaiso, which was the ninth time this season, and 25th time in her career that she has scored in double figures.
• The sophomore from Raymond, Ill. also reached the 500-point milestone in the win to become the 16th Saluki with at least 500 career points/300 rebounds/50 assists/50 blocks.
• She is currently top-5 in the league in double-doubles (2nd, 7), blocks per game (5th, 1.1) and rebounds per game (2nd, 8.4).
Sharpshooter
• Kristen Nelson shot 7-of-8 from the field in the win over Valparaiso, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc. It is the third time this season that she has made at least three treys in a game without a miss. Southern is 3-0 in those games.
Knocking down shots
• Makenzie Silvey scored a team-high 21 points in the win over the Crusaders. It is the fourth time this season that she has scored 20-plus points, which is tied with Nicole Martin for the team lead as well as tied for the seventh-most in the MVC this season.
• Silvey went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe and has now made 12-straight free throws dating back to SIU's win over Northern Illinois on Dec. 7.
• She grabbed six boards in the win over Valpo- which marked the eighth time this season she has finished with six or more rebounds. She did so just twice in 31 games as a freshman.
• She also dished out career assist No. 100 against Illinois State to become the 35th Saluki with 500 career points/150 rebounds/100 assists.
• Silvey's 94 career three-pointers are five shy of cracking the top-10 in program history and she ranks second in the league in three-pointers made (42), three-pointers attempted (129), and three-pointers made per game (2.44).
Running the Point
• Brittney Patrick currently leads the Valley, and ranks 18th nationally, in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.75).
• Patrick's 5.2 assists per game also leads the MVC while she also leads the league in total assists (88).
• SIU has only once had a player lead the league in assists per game (Cartaesha Macklin, 2013) and Patrick's 2.75 assist-to-turnover ratio would be a school record.
• She is three assists shy of 200 for her career and when she reaches 200 she will become the 22nd Saluki with 200-plus career helpers.
• With three assists, Patrick will also tie her total from last season (91). In doing so, she may likely reach that number with half of the turnovers. Patrick turned the ball over 68 times as a sophomore and has just 32 turnovers in 17 games this season.
• Her seven rebounds were not only a career-high but it also marked the first time in which she has led the team in rebounding.
RPI
• The Missouri Valley Conference currently has six teams with top-175 RPIs, according to Warrennolan.com.
• Drake leads the way at No. 13. Northern Iowa (No. 79), Missouri State (No. 87), Indiana State (No. 157), Bradley (No. 165) and SIU (No. 168) are all currently in the top half of the NCAA In RPI.
