Salukis Compete at Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Southern Illinois University cross country teams competed at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State University on Saturday.
The women finished 25th with 585 points in the white race. Senior Olivia Murphy was the Salukis top performer with her 69th place finish (22:44.2). Freshman Rachel Anderson was next Saluki finisher, coming in 108th(23:15.0), while senior Megan Krolak placed 135th (23:52).
Freshman Fallon Russell came in 136th with a time of 23:54.2, followed by senior Madison Decker in 137thwith a time of 23:57. Sophomore Maddy Hurt placed 145th with a time of 24:17.4, while fellow classmate Sydney Matusik came in 156th with a time of 24:44.
The University of Arizona took first in the women's 6K white race with three top-25 finishers, including a third-place finish by Jennie Baragar-Petrash. Individually, San Francisco's Aoibhe Richardson took the individual title in the white race, crossing the finish line with a time of 20:32.1.
In the women's 6K blue race, Washington took first with four top-25 finishes, including a fifth-place finish from Katie Rainsberger (20:14.5). BYU's Erica Birk placed first in the race with her time of 20:02.6.
The men took 18th in the white race with 425 points. Cain Hassim was the Salukis top finisher, as the redshirt senior placed 39th with a time of 25:53.4. Chris Edwards was the next closest Saluki, as the fellow senior came in 93rd with a time of 27:01.3. Jacob DeWitt placed 98th (27:08.6), while JT Hodges placed 102nd with a time of 27:14.1. Michael Church took 103rd with a time of 27:16.3, while Travis Hart placed 118 with a time of 28:06.5.
IUPUI took first in the men's 8K white race with a total score of 140 points, which included a 10th place finish by Ben Savage (25:14.8). Individually, Aaron Bienenfeld from Cincinnati took first with a time of 24:04.5. In the blue race, BYU took first with 81 total points, including the top-place finish by Connor Mantz (23:20.8).
The Salukis will switch gears and will begin preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, which is set for Nov. 2 and will be hosted by Valparaiso University.
