LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Southern Illinois men's golf program sits in 11th place through two rounds of the Little Rock Invitational at Chenal Country Club. Eastern Michigan leads the 15-team field at 1-over par.
SIU shot 23-over par (302-297=599) on the day. The Salukis were 13th overall at the end of round one with a total of 302, but managed to move up two spots in the standings, as they finished with a round-two total of 297. Southern leads Missouri Valley Conference opponents Missouri State (13th) and Bradley (15th) heading into the final round of golf tomorrow.
Sophomore Matthis Besard (+5) led Southern in the individual standings, as he fired rounds of 75 and 74 to finish the day at a tie for 41st overall out of 87 golfers. Close behind Besard is freshman Andrew Thornton (+6) at a tie for 46th. The freshman carded 73 in round two, which was the best 18-hole score by a Saluki on Day One.
The three remaining Saluki golfers are also in the top-60. Frankie Thomas is tied for 52nd overall (+7), while Riley Klingelberg (+8) and Vikar Jonasson (+8) are in 58th.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. CT for the final round of the Little Rock Invite. Live scoring can be found here.
