LAHAINA, HI — The Southern Illinois men's golf program is tied for 17th out of 20 teams through two rounds at the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. Washington has ascended to the lead in the team standings at 28-under par.

Southern carded 297 (+13) on Day Two and has a total of 579 (+11) through two rounds. SIU's round-two total was 15 strokes higher than their opening-round score of 282. SIU began the day tied for 13th place with host Hawaii, but dropped four spots in the standings to 17th at the conclusion of round two.

Andrew Thornton led SIU with a round-two total of 73 (+2). The freshman is tied for 47th out of 117 golfers in the individual standings.

The trio of Matthis Besard, Sean Mullan and Birgir Magnusson each shot 3-over par (74) on Day Two.

Besard shot 3-under par on the front-nine, but bogeyed five holes on the back-nine to finish at 3-over par. He is tied with Thornton for 47th in the standings. Mullan is tied for 58th, while Magnusson is tied for 110th. The two had a team-best four birdies in round two.

Riley Klingelberg (T-90th // +5) and Frankie Thomas (T-106th // +9) round out the Saluki golfers and will look to rise in the standings in the final round tomorrow.
