Saluki Track and Field places 18 on MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

The Southern Illinois track and field program placed 18 student-athletes on the Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Scholar-Athlete team for the 2019 season, the Valley announced Wednesday.

In order to be eligible for the MVC Scholar-Athlete team, student-athletes must be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, hold at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have placed in the top-eight of an individual event or top-three in a relay event at the MVC Indoor or Outdoor Championships.

Of Southern's 18 honorees, 11 were women and seven were men. Bri'Anna Branch, Alicia Reed and Josh Maier were each named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team for the third time in their respective careers while Megan Krolak, Justine Paton, Alexis Roberson, Savannah Long and Issiac Wingerter all earned their second MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selections.

Southern had 10 first-time honorees, which matched its total of first-timers from a year ago. Four-time MVC Champion Madison Meyer heads the list of first-time selections, joined by MVC high jump champion Caleb Vogel as well as two-time All-MVC Theo Phipps. Chris Edwards, Kira Williams, Emma Sexton, Kayleigh Conlon, Sam Sikon, Kyle Zeinemann and Erin Diemer also earned their first career MVC Scholar-Athlete honors.
