Five Things to Know: SIU Soccer at UIC

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's soccer team travels to the Windy City for its second exhibition match of the young season when it takes on the University of Illinois-Chicago Flames on Aug. 13 at 6 p.m.
1. ONE UP, ONE DOWN: The Salukis are coming off of a 2-1 exhibition victory over Tennessee Tech on Sunday. Freshmen Kaitlin DuCharme and Madison Meiring both scored in the victory, with Meiring's goal sealing the win in the 85th minute.Â
2. SCOUTING UIC: The Flames are coming off a 4-14-1 season in 2018. Sophomore forward Emily Kavanaugh returns as the leading scorer from a season ago with five goals. UIC played only one opponent last season that SIU will face in its 2019 campaign, which came on Sept. 26 in a 1-0 loss to IUPUI. The Salukis will have its chance against the Jaguars on Sept. 1.Â
3. FIRST EXPERIENCES: Seventeen Salukis with no prior collegiate experience played in their first exhibition match on Sunday, giving the incoming student-athletes some much-needed game experience.
4. LOOKING AHEAD: After the conclusion of Tuesday's match, the Salukis will prepare to face SEMO on Saturday at 7 p.m., which will be the first-ever exhibition match at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex. Tickets are available on-line or by calling 1-877-SALUKIS.
