The Saluki women's golf team travel to Burlington, Iowa to compete in the MVC Fall Preview at Spirit Hollow. Players participating in the tournament for Southern Illinois are junior Moyea Russell, freshman Ayanna Habeel, junior Emilyee McGiles, senior Erica Kerr, and junior Rosemarie Bundy. Freshmen Secilia Ho and Megan Breslin will be competing as individuals.
The 15-team field will compete at Spirit Hollow Golf Course, a par-72 course that extends 6,245 yards.
"The team looks good, although our All-Conference senior Lili Klekner-Alt is out with an injury (ankle) right now. With that being said, our freshman are ready to step up," said SIU head coach Danielle Kaufman.
Missouri State won last years MVC Fall Preview by 2-strokes over second place Bradley. For the past three years, SIU has placed in the top-5 of the tournament, tying third in the 2017 contest.
Southern Illinois goes into the tournament coming off a seventh place finish in their season opener at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, IL. Junior Moyea Russell finished tied for 15th, carding a team low 70 in the second round, which helped SIU shoot a historic 288 for the first time in program history.
"We've continued to focus on our short game. I instill that every time we prepare for a tournament," said Coach Danielle Kaufman. "Since it's usually colder up north, we need to make sure our short game is on point. I'm looking forward to how we compete against the conference teams. This will give us a good idea of what we need to work on from here on out."
There will be an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start on Monday and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday to complete the final round. Live stats will be available on Golf Stat.Â
