The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team heads to Columbia, Mo. to take on the Missouri Tigers inside Mizzou Arena on the campus of the University of Missouri Sunday, Dec. 20 at 12:30 p.m. The Salukis are winners of three-straight after they knocked off Kansas City, 79-68. Southern is seeking its first win over a SEC program- and its first victory over Missouri -Â since 1987. The Tigers (3-1) have won two-straight, including an 88-49 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday.
Record vs. SEC schools
- SIU is 9-29 all-time against current Southeastern Conference programs.
- Southern has faced 11 of the 14 teams currently in the SEC.
- The Salukis last took on a current SEC opponent in 2012, when Southern lost at Missouri, 110-47 on Dec. 16 during the Tigers first season in the SEC.
- SIU's last win over a SEC program came in the first round of the 1987 NCAA Tournament - a 70-56 win over LSU on March 15, 1987.Â
- The Salukis have faced in SEC opponent in three of the program's four trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Record vs. Power 5 conferences
- This will mark SIU's 157th game in school history against a Power 5 conference program. Below is Southern's record against each of the five conferences.
- Southern's last Power 5 conference win came during the 2016-17 season when the Salukis defeated the Purdue Boilermakers, 64-61 on Nov. 20 in West Lafayette, Ind.

All-time vs. MissouriÂ
• Sunday's game will mark the 14th all-time meeting between the Tigers and the Salukis, and the first since 2012.
- Mizzou leads the all-time series, 8-5 and have won the last five matchups.
- The Tigers took the last matchup between the two schools- a 110-47 win in Columbia, Mo. on Dec. 16, 2012.
- SIU's last win in the series came on Nov. 29, 1987- a 69-51 win over the Tigers in Carbondale, Ill.
- Southern's last win at Mizzou on Jan. 31, 1981- a 78-73 victory.
Welcome Back
- Cindy Stein returns to Mizzou after she spent 12 seasons (1998-2010) at the helm of the Tigers.
- The Tigers went 185-177 in Stein's 12 seasons, which included seven postseason appearances.
- Stein is 11-15 against SEC programs during her 24-year head coaching career.
Tiger connection
• Assistant coach Christelle N'Garsanet, in her eighth season on Stein's staff at SIU, is a 2006 graduate of Mizzou.Â
- N'Garsanet played three seasons for Stein at Missouri and earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors as a senior. The Marcory, Ivory Coast native finished with 870 career points and 225 rebounds.
- The New York Liberty drafted N'Garsanet in the third round of the 2006 WNBA Draft.
McCallister's big night
- Payton McCallister made her 10th career start against Kansas City and recorded career-bests in assists (7), steals (6) and minutes played (38).
- McCallister's seven assists - six steals is the first such stat line by a Saluki since Rishonda Napier recorded eight assists and six steals against Indiana State on Feb. 15, 2015.
- It was the most minutes that the Columbia, Mo. native has played since the third game of her freshman season (at Marshall; 11/17/18).
- McCallister has turned the ball over just four times this season and leads the MVC in assist-to-turnover ratio (4.3). She ranks 17th nationally in the category.
Dishing out helpers
- SIU dished out a season-high 22 assists on 28 field goals in its win over Kansas City on Dec. 17.
- It was the most for the Salukis in a game since they recorded 26 in a 99-60 win over Evansville on Feb. 23, 2020.
10-plus steals
- The Salukis forced 19 turnovers and came away with a season-high 12 steals in their win over Kansas City on Dec. 17.
- SIU's guards, Quierra Love, Makenzie Silvey and Payton McCallister accounted for 10 of SIU's 12 steals.
- Thursday's 12 steals marked the 44th time in Cindy Stein's eight-year tenure as head coach that Southern has finished with double-digit steals.
Taking care of the ball
- The Salukis turned the ball over a season-low six times in the win over Kansas City on Dec. 17.Â
- It was the fewest turnovers for Southern since its 66-41 win over Evansville on March 3, 2018 in which SIU turned the ball over just four times.
- Southern has committed the fewest turnovers per game (12.5) in the Valley.
- SIU's win over Kansas City marked the 19th time during Coach Stein's tenure that the Salukis have finished with single-digit turnovers. Southern holds an 13-6 (.684) record in those games with four of the six losses coming by four points or fewer.
- Since 1985, SIU holds a .688 winning percentage (31-14) in games where it turns the ball over nine times or fewer.
December is our favorite month
• SIU is 3-0 in the month of December this year and is 11-1 in the month of December over the last three seasons.
- During the 2019 season, Southern went a perfect 4-0 in December- which marked just the third perfect December in school history and first since 1987.
• The Salukis are 28-15 (.651) all-time in the month of December under eighth-year head coach Cindy Stein.
Three-straight wins
• Southern has won three-straight games, including back-to-back wins over teams that would've played in the 2020 NCAA Tournament in SEMO and Kansas City.
• SIU's 3-1 start to the season is its first since the 2017-18 season.
• Southern is seeking its first 4-1 start to a season since the 2014-15 season.
Climbing the List
• Makenzie Silvey passed Bridgett Bonds and Terica Hathaway to move in 13th place on SIU's all-time scoring list with her 24 points in SIU's win over Kansas City. She is 23 points shy of passing Connie Price/Molly McDowell for 11th.
• Last season, Nicole Martin became the fifth Saluki during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Martin joined Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (10th; 1,298) in that club.

Joining the Club/Starting a New One
• Abby Brockmeyer ranks 29th in school history with 976 career points. She is 24 points shy of becoming the 28th member of SIU's 1,000 point club.
• Brockmeyer became just the 11th player to snag 700-plus career rebounds with her 12 boards against SEMO on Dec. 13. In SIU's win over Austin Peay on Dec. 12, she became just the fifth player in program history to record triple-digit career blocks.
• The Raymond, Ill. native could also become the first player in program history to amass 1,000 career points/700 rebounds/100 steals/100 blocks and 100 assists. In addition to needing 24 points, she is seven steals shy of reaching the necessary milestones.
