SIU will try for its first-ever win at JQH Arena at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team travels to No. 17/24 Missouri State for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday, February 15. The Salukis are looking for their first season sweep of the Lady Bears since 2007.
All-Time vs. Missouri State
- The Salukis and the Lady Bears meet for the 85th time in a series that dates back to the 1970-71 season.
- Southern trails the all-time series, 30-54.
- SIU defeated No. 17/19 Missouri State, 70-68 on Jan. 17, 2020 to break a three-game losing streak to the Lady Bears.
- SIU's last six wins over the Lady Bears have come at home, as Southern is seeking its first-ever win at the JQH Arena, which opened in 2008.
- The Salukis last win in Springfield came during the 2006-07 season when Missouri State played at the Hammons Student Center. The '06-07 season also marks the last time that the Salukis swept the season series from the Lady Bears.
Ranked opponent
- Southern defeated No. 17/19 Missouri State on Jan. 17 for the program's first victory over a ranked opponent since 1991.
- The Lady Bears come into Saturday's contest once again ranked in the Top-25 (No. 17/24).
- Last time that SIU posted two wins over Top-25 opponents in the same season: 1986.
- During the 1986-87 season, Southern defeated No. 11 Western Kentucky, 64-43, and a week later, pulled off a 60-49 victory over No. 15 Illinois.
15-plus assists
- Southern dished out 18 assists against Drake and 16 versus Northern Iowa.
- The Salukis have finished with 15 or more assists in five-straight games and have now done so in 13 games this season.
- SIU ranks second in the Valley, and 38th nationally, with a 15.8 assists per game average.
Turning the Bulldogs over
- In SIU's first meeting with Drake, Southern turned the Bulldogs over 27 times and came away with 16 steals.
- In the second meeting at Drake, the Salukis forced 24 turnovers and finished with a season-high 19 steals.
- Seven different Salukis recorded a steal, six of which tallied multiple takeaways.
- Southern's 19 steals were its most in a game since Nov. 12, 2007 in a 71-55 win over Christian Brothers.
- SIU's 19 steals are the third-most by a MVC team this season.
Disrupting Passing Lanes
- Southern has notched 10-plus steals in eight games this season, including three-straight games.
- SIU's three-game streak of 10-plus steals is the longest since last season, when Southern posted five-straight games with 10-plus steals.
- The Salukis have a winning record (4-3) this season when recording 10-plus steals and are 24-15 (.615) under head coach Cindy Stein when doing so.
- Kristen Nelson has recorded at least one steal in 17-straight games, including five-straight games with multiple steals.
- Brittney Patrick has tallied at least one steal in her last seven games and is averaging 4.5 steals per game over her last four games.
- Patrick, who recorded six steals against Bradley (Feb. 2) and five versus Drake (Feb. 7) became the first Saluki with back-to-back five-plus steal games since Mercedes Griffin did so in 2014.
Two with 5-plus steals
- Brittney Patrick and Makenzie Silvey each recorded five steals against the Drake Bulldogs on Feb. 7.
- In doing so, they became the first Saluki teammates to nab five steals in the same game in over 10 years - Stephany Neptune (6) and Teri Oliver (5) last accomplished the feat on Jan. 1, 2010 in a 79-68 win over Evansville.
Big Lift off the bench
- Payton McCallister scored all 10 of her points in the second quarter against Northern Iowa on Sunday.
- It marked the first time since in over a year (Feb. 3, 2019) that McCallister has scored in double figures and the sixth time she has done so in her career.
Climbing up the charts
- Nicole Martin scored a team-high 22 points against Drake to pass her former teammate, Kylie Giebelhausen, for ninth on SIU's all-time scoring list.
- Martin is the fifth Saluki during the Stein era to crack the Top-10 in scoring in program history. Martin joins Cartaesha Macklin (1st; 1,779), Rishonda Napier (2nd; 1,728), Dyana Pierre (7th; 1,425) and Kylie Giebelhausen (10th; 1,298) in that club.
- Martin is also just the sixth player in program history, and first since Amy Rakers in 1991, to tally 1200 points/600 rebounds/100 steals/50 blocks in a career. In addition to Rakers, Martin joins Mary Berghuis, Sue Faber, Char Warring and Bridgett Bonds as the only Salukis to accomplish the feat.

1,000 points and counting
- Makenzie Silvey scored her 1,000th career point against Drake on Jan. 12.
- The junior guard is the 27th player in program history to reach the milestone, and the 10th to do so as a junior.
- It took the Glen Carbon, Ill. native 76 career games to accomplish the feat- the sixth-fastest to reach 1,000 career points in terms of games played in school history.
- Silvey made her 170th career three-pointer against UNI and ranks fourth in school history for career threes.
