Ricky Hurley Climbs Record Books as Salukis Wrap Up Competition at Tom Botts Invitational

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Southern Illinois University track and field program concluded its third outdoor meet of the 2021 season on Saturday at the Tom Botts Invitational. In all, seven Salukis notched top-five finishes at the two-day meet.
On the women's side, Bri'Yanna Robinson finished the shot put with the second-furthest throw, a 14.75m (48'-4.75") toss that came on on her second attempt. Elisia Lancaster finished six spots behind Robinson with a toss of 11.96m (39'-3"), while freshman Kaitlyn Burson placed eighth with a mark of 11.87m (38'-11.5").
Over at the hammer throw, Shauniece O'Neal was the top Saluki performer, as the Florissant, Mo., native finished fourth with a throw of 61.40m (201'-5"). Lancaster finished fifth at 59.36m (194'-9"), while Emily Kern finished sixth at a mark of 58.44m (191'-9").
Freshman Stephanie Anthonies placed fifth in the 5000-meter race with a time of 17:58.26, setting a new personal-best along the way. Emma Sexton, competing in just her third meet in the past two years, finished second in the javelin with a throw of 38.86m (127'-6").
On the men's side, Ricky Hurley launched the third-furthest hammer throw in program history. His toss of 66.19m (217'-2") came on his fourth attempt, securing his second-place finish behind Kansas' Gleb Dudarev. Sophomore Dylan Beaird finished sixth in the same event by throwing for 55.54m (182'-3"), which stands as the longest throw of his career.
Freshman Ethan Senti finished third in the 5000-meter race, clocking in with a personal-best time of 14:49.89. Fellow freshman Uriah Guthrie also set a new PR in the event by finishing the race at 15:07.18, placing him in ninth.
Due to inclement weather, Saturday's running events were canceled, while the high jump and pole vault were moved indoors. No Salukis competed in either event.
The Salukis will return to the track on April 23-24 at the Clark Wood Open, hosted by the University of Louisville.
