CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team will begin its postseason journey on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT, traveling to West Lafayette, Ind. for a road tilt with the Purdue Boilermakers. The Salukis (21-9) last faced Purdue on Nov. 20, 2016, defeating the Boilermakers 64-61.
This is the first WNIT appearance for Southern since the 2006-07 season, where the Salukis defeated Stephen F. Austin, 58-50, in the opening round in Carbondale, before falling to Kansas State in the second round. This is also the third postseason appearance for SIU during head coach Cindy Stein's tenure, as the Salukis took part in the Women's Basketball Invitational in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
Southern has a 5-5 all-time record against the Boilermakers. This will be the third matchup between the two since the turn of the century, and the fourth straight taking place in West Lafayette.
Ticket information can be found on Purdue's athletics website.
