KIRKWOOD, Mo. — The Southern Illinois women's golf team is ready for the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Championship. The 10-team field will tee off at Greenbriar Hills Country Club in Kirkwood, Missouri, a par 71 course that spans 5,830 yards. Teams will play 54 holes over three days. The 18 hole championship golf course features well maintained zoysia fairways and over 25,000 flowering annuals planted yearly. Southern Illinois was picked to finish fifth in the 2022 MVC Coaches Poll in February, receiving 55 votes.
The Salukis are led by graduate Moyea Russell, graduate Rosemarie Bundy, junior Ayanna Habeel, freshman Kylee Vaughan, and sophomore Janie Samattiyadeekul. Junior Secilia Ho will travel with the team as a substitute, if needed.
Moyea Russell enters the championship with the team's best stroke average during the 2021-22 season, 78.58 through 26 rounds. She has had 15 rounds in the 70s this season. Russell's low round of the season (69) came at the Redbird Spring Invitational where she tied for sixth place, her best finish of the season.
Rosemarie Bundy has had five rounds in the 70s this season and competed in seven tournaments, carding a scoring average of 81.35. Ayanna Habeel closed out the regular season with a Top-20 finish at the Redbird Spring Invitational and enters the championship with a 78.00 stroke average. Kylee Vaughan will compete in her first MVC Championship event, averaging 80.50 through 20 rounds this year. Janie Samattiyadeekul has had 11 rounds in the 70s this season and enters the championship coming off her best-finish at the Redbird Spring Invitational, tied for 37th. Secilia Ho has competed in five tournaments for SIU this season with six rounds in the 70s.
The championship is set to tee off Easter Sunday at 10:00 a.m. CT (weather permitting) for the first round of 18 holes. The weather forecast calls for cloudy skies with occasional rain in the afternoon and a high of 54F with winds east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph. Monday's second round is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. CT and Tuesday's final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT with split tee times.
