
Salukis return to Davies Gym to host Drake and Northern Iowa

The Southern Illinois volleyball team returns home after opening Missouri Valley Conference play 2-0 on the road last weekend with a pair of five-set victories at Murray State and Belmont. The Salukis will host Drake at 5 p.m. Friday followed by a match with Northern Iowa Saturday evening with first set for 6 p.m. Both games will be the played at Davies Gym for the first time this season.Â

- Drake currently sits at 10-5 (1-1 MVC) on the season including a highlight win against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
- The Bulldogs split the first weekend of Valley play, beating UIC in four-sets and falling to Valparaiso 3-2Â on Saturday.
- Mariana Rodrigues (185) and Haley Bush (176) currently lead the Bulldogs in kills.Â

- The win was the Salukis first Valley win since Feb. 14, 2021, at Valparaiso when Southern won in five-sets during the COVID spring season. Â
- The Salukis sit 2-0 in league play for the first time since 2016, when SIU opened league play 4-0.
Dishing Out Dimes
- Sophomore setter Anna Jaworski tallied 59 assists and three aces in the five-set victory at Belmont last Saturday, both marking new highs on the year.
- Jaworski averaged 10.8 assists per set in the first two Valley wins and currently leads the Valley averaging 10.61 assists per set on the season.Â
- Along with Jaworski's new season-high on Saturday, outside hitter Nataly Garcia finished the match with 25 kills and a .420 hitting percentage, both season-highs.
