Salukis Set for Senior Weekend in Davies Gym

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois returns to Davies Gym after playing its last four matches on the road while going 4-0 during that stretch. The Salukis got back on track after losing six-straight with four consecutive four-set wins to improve to 16-10 (8-7 MVC) with just three matches remaining in the regular season.

Friday's match with Illinois State will begin at 6pm followed by a first serve at 5pm on Saturday for Senior Night.

Quick Hits

The Salukis will honor seniors Nataly Garcia, Nsia Gittens, Imani Hartfield, and Tatum Tornatta on Saturday prior to the match against Bradley at 5pm.

Cecilia Bulmahn was named Missouri Valley Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 7.13 digs per set a week ago. Bulmahn recorded 36 digs against Belmont, a career-high and the second-most in a single match in SIU history.
Saluki seniors Tatum Tornatta and Nataly Garcia have been on a hot streak as the two have each had 10+ kills each of Southern's last five matches.
Head coach Ed Allen won his 700th career match against Belmont last Friday, November 3. Allen is in his fifth season at Southern and 32nd overall.
Junior setter Anna Jaworski surpassed 3000 career assists in SIU's four-set win over Murray State this past weekend, becoming just the sixth Saluki to reach that milestone.

Weekend Matchups

The Salukis and Redbirds face off for the first time this season. Illinois State defeated Southern in four-sets a season ago in Normal. The Redbirds lead the all-time series at 82-13 as the Dawgs look to notch their first win over Illinois State since 2016.
The Redbirds come into the weekend in fifth place at 9-6 in the MVC, just one game ahead of the Salukis.
The Salukis will take on Bradley for the first time this season. SIU leads the all-time series at 47-26 and won the previous matchup a year ago in four-sets.
The Braves are currently 2-13 in the Missouri Valley with a 9-19 overall record.
