Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois returns to the MVC Semifinals for the first time since 2015 as they take on No. 1 seed and reigning MVC champs UNI. The Salukis snapped a five-match MVC Tournament losing streak with a sweep over Belmont in the quarterfinals Monday evening.
The Salukis and Panthers have met seven times prior in the MVC Tournament with UNI holding a 4-3 advantage over SIU in those matches. Southern fell in three-sets in Cedar Falls earlier this season while it was on a six-game skid but have since gone 8-2 including eight-straight wins.
UNI enters the MVC Tournament having won 19-straight matches, the fifth-longest active streak in the NCAA. The Panthers have also won 20-straight MVC matches dating back to last year's tournament in Evansville.Â
A Salukis win tonight would mark the program's first MVC Tournament Finals appearance since 2013 as Southern tries to win its first ever Valley Championship.
The Dawgs and Panthers will play in the first match in Springfield Tuesday evening with first serve set for 3 PM CT. All MVC Tournament matches will be held in Hammons Student Center at Missouri State and streamed on ESPN+.
