Opening Round Begins at Dalhousie Golf Club Monday Morning
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. — SIU is set to host the Saluki Invitational starting Monday in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, at Dalhousie Golf Club for the lone home event this fall for Women's Golf. The Tournament format will be 36 holes on Monday in two rounds and then the final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.
"Dalhousie Golf Club will host for a second straight year The Saluki Invitational with teams coming from Texas, Tennessee, Missouri and Indiana. We feel very fortunate at SIU to host at this beautiful and very challenging golf course," said head coach Cindy Bodmer.
Southern will have two teams playing in the event while welcoming Austin Peay, Evansville, Lindenwood, Purdue, Stephen F. Austin and Tennessee Tech.
Dalhousie Golf Club is no stranger to hosting big time events for Southern Illinois, as SIU hosted the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship in 2018 and the Women's Championship in 2017.
"The staff is so welcoming and we are very fortunate to have a great relationship with Dalhousie, a course that is so prestigious," said Bodmer. "They love supporting collegiate golf and we are so appreciate of being able to play on such a prestigious course. The players that can overcome the challenging greens will probably have the most success."
Dalhousie Golf Club is a Jack Nichlaus design and the character of the 7,389 yard core golf layout varies from undulating terrain to old growth forests to spectacular water holes, while gnarly-edged bunkers, imaginative green complexes, immaculate Zoysia fairways and large, rectangular Bentgrass tee boxes add dimension and challenge.
SIU enters the Saluki Invitational coming off its best finish as a team in The Velvet Tournament hosted by Murray State, as five Salukis placed in the top 30 of the tournament.
"We have 4 returning players that competed in this tournament last year and I feel that will help us challenge for the first place trophy," said Bodmer. "We want to win our own tournament and we look forward to competing."
Coach Bodmer's first team in the Tournament will consist of Janie Samattiyadeekul, who finished in the top five of the Saluki Invitational last season. Morgan Gindler, Secilia Ho, Kayla Sayyalinh, and Kylee Vaughan round out the lineup.
The second team for the Salukis will be Sadie Zorrilla, Allie Santos, Ella Overstreet, Waew Anuvran and Adriana Vinterova. Amelia Zingler and Calli Smith will both compete in the tournament as individuals.
Live scoring for the Tournament will be conducted through GolfStat.
