
Recap | Southern Illinois Falls Short at Bradley on Saturday

PEORIA, Ill. - In a game that came down to the wire, the Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (6-9, 1-4 MVC) ultimately fell short at Bradley, losing by a final score of 58-56.
The SIU offense struggled out of the gate, scoring nine points in the opening quarter on 4-of-16 shooting from the field. Defensively, Southern held Bradley to 13 points on 6-of-16 shooting through the first 10 minutes.
Southern Illinois flipped the script in the second quarter, out-scoring the Braves, 14-9. The Salukis were strong on the defensive end in the quarter, as Bradley shot 4-of-12 from the field and had six turnovers.
At the halftime break, SIU led, 23-22, with Laniah Randle's 10 points pacing the Salukis. Southern Illinois posted a field-goal percentage of 31.3% in the first half, while Bradley shot 35.7%. Southern forced 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
Bradley out-scored the Salukis, 16-14, in the third quarter, after the Braves' offense shot 6-of-10 from the field. Heading into the fourth, SIU trailed, 38-37.
The game came down to the final possessions for both of the teams on Saturday, with Bradley's Nika Dorsey scoring with just two seconds remaining to give Bradley the late, two-point lead. Randle had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but the shot didn't fall as the Braves won, 58-56.
Randle was SIU's leading scorer on Saturday, scoring 25 points while also posting nine rebounds and two steals.
Southern, now 6-9 overall and 1-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play, will return home on Friday, Jan. 19, at 6 p.m. when it hosts Indiana State at the Banterra Center.
