
Recap | Salukis Reset Several Records in Day Three of Men's MVC Championships

OXFORD, Ohio – Day three of the Men's Missouri Valley Conference Championships took place on Friday, with Southern Illinois' men's squad participating in the events once again. It was another record breaking day for the Salukis but they were unable to climb up in the standings, still sitting in second place behind Miami (OH).

Prelims
The day started with the 100-yard butterfly prelims, and Santiago continued his record-setting week. His time of 45.74 won the event while also setting a new school, conference, and MVC Championship record. It also booked Santiago's spot in the A-finals while Benedek Andor and Benedek Andor secured A-finals spots as well. As for the B-finals, Nicolas Lanuza, Alex Cimera, and AJ Stone grabbed spots.
In the 400-yard IM, Juraj Barcot and Henrique Pacheco Januario were top-eight finishers, good enough to make the A-finals. Nate Worsham came in 14th in the event, sending him to the B-finals.
Rodrigo Ramos Chávez placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:37.86, grabbing him a A-finals spot. Tomáš Peciar and Joshua Aceves placed 12th and 13th, respectively, sending them to the B-finals.
Another record fell in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims. Tiago Faleiros came first in the event with his time of 53.95, qualifying him for the A-finals while setting a new MVC Championships record. Andor finished 13th in the event, sending him to the B-finals.
Two Salukis secured A-finals spots in the 100-yard backstroke. Willem Huggins was second in the event while Cimera was seventh. Three-meter diving ended the prelims, and Oliver Mebs placed fourth to grab an A-finals spot. Lucas Lauzon and AJ Stone dove well enough to make the B-finals.
Finals
Finals kicked off with the 100-yard butterfly. Santiago once again reset the school, conference, and MVC Championships record with his gold-medal time of 45.30. Just two spots behind Santiago on the podium was Andor with his time of 46.79.
The 400-yard IM was next, and Barcot grabbed silver with his swim of 3:48.94. A Saluki returned to the top of the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke when Faleiros came in first with a time of 53.34. That time reset the school, Valley, and MVC Championships records.
Finally, Huggins rounded out SIU's top-three finishers when he took second in the 100-yard backstroke.
