FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Southern Illinois swimmer Alex Santiago spent the last three days competing at the Men's NCAA Championships, the final event on SIU's 2025 schedule. Santiago competed in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, as well as the 100-yard butterfly
How it Happened
Santiago's trip started on Thursday with the 50-yard freestyle prelims. The senior completed his swim in 19.21 seconds, good enough for 30th place. He was back in action on Friday in the 100-yard butterfly, which he finished in 45.11 seconds. While that only netted Santiago 20th place in prelims, it reset the Missouri Valley Conference and program record for the event, records Santiago previously held. Lastly, Santiago competed in the 100-yard freestyle prelims on Saturday, where he finished 39th with a time of 42.34.
