Women's Tennis Drops Two Tough Matches

PADUCAH, KY. - The women's tennis team falls to 2-6 on the year after dropping both their weekend matches, first to the Murray State Racers on Friday and then were shut out as the Red Hawks of Miami of Ohio handed the Salukis a 7-0 loss Saturday at the Rowten Tennis Club.
SIU was able to post two against Murray State as junior Maria Blanco defeated Jaclyn Leeper at the No. 1 spot and freshmen Joana Hornestam knocked off Tami McQueen at the No. 6 spot.
The Dawgs could not get anything going in doubles against the Racers. "We lacked all the fundamentals necessary to compete in the doubles against Murray State" said coach Brett Bridal, after SIU dropped all three doubles matches to MSU.
The Salukis weekend unfortunately did not get any better as they took on a very solid Miami of Ohio team on Saturday. The Salukis could not get anything going in doubles or in singles, as they were blanked by the Red Hawks, 7-0.
"We were just out matched on Saturday. Our doubles played tactically sound, much better then on friday, they just beat us", commented Bridal.
The Salukis will be back in action on March, 14 as they will play Florida A & M in Tallahasse, Fl..
