CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to UNI today on the University Courts.
The Panthers took the doubles point winning two of the three matches. Maria Blanco and Zuzana Palovic edged Agnese Pukse and Taynara Moreas of UNI 8-7 in the number one match, but it wasn't enough to earn the point.
SIU and UNI split the singles matches, each team winning three. Blanco continued to play well winning the number one singles match 5-7, 6-4, 12-10 over Meghana Paritala.
At the three spot Zuzana Palovic fought back after losing the first set to defeat Taynara Moreas 4-6, 6-1, 12-10. Amanda Taillefer also pulled off a win in the number four match against Carolina Hannes 6-1, 6-3.
With the win the Panthers improve to 13-4 and 3-2 in the conference while the Salukis drop to 3-10 and 0-4. The Salukis will get another chance at their first conference win tomorrow as they host Drake on the University Courts at 11 a.m. In case of inclement weather the match will move to the indoor courts at Sports Blast.
