WICHITA, Kan. - It was a difficult weekend for the Southern Illinois women's tennis team as they lost their third match in as many days against Wichita State Sunday. The Shockers dominated the match from the start winning 7-0.
"It was a tough weekend for us," said tennis coach Rene Vidal. "I believe the team recognizes that we have to work harder outside of team practice if we want to put ourselves in position to win some of these matches."
The Salukis were able to put one win together against a tough WSU team led by Madina Rakhim, who is ranked 82nd in the nation.
While SIU didn't win the doubles point, Zoya Honarmand and Laura Bredniak edged WSU 8-7 in the number two match.
"We are beginning to find ourselves in doubles play and that is a positive thing," said Vidal.
With the loss, the Salukis fall to 0-3 in conference play, but look to turn things around next weekend as they host UNI, Drake and Creighton.
