Salukis finish with eight wins at Saluki Fall Classic

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's tennis team hosted Eastern Illinois for the fifth annual Saluki Fall Invitational on Saturday. SIU finished the tournament winning eight of 16 matches against the Panthers.
Senior Natasha Tomishima and sophomore Meagan Monaghan finished undefeated in doubles, advancing their record to 7-2 on the season. Tomishima finished the day without a loss, coming away two singles wins and two doubles wins.
"Natasha and Meagan did very well again today. They were pretty solid and I think they got better and more confident as the day went on as well," head coach Audra Anderson said.
The tournament began at SIU's University Courts, but inclement weather half way through the competition forced the teams to move to Garden Grove Events Center for the remainder of the day. The change in location presented some challenges, but SIU was able to finish with some wins, experience and a point to move forward from.
"Once we moved inside I think it was tough for some of them because they though to themselves, `Do I stick to my game plan that I had outside, or do I need to switch to an indoor game?'" Anderson said. "I think this tournament was good, though, because it allowed us to get people matches to try some things out and get them some experience."
The Salukis finished with six wins and five losses in singles play, and two wins and three losses in doubles.
SIU will continue its fall season at the ITA Regional tournament later this week in Tulsa, Okla. Tomishima, Monaghan, Ariadna Cairo Baza and Athena Chrysanthou will represent the Salukis.
